Recently opened, Mazi (which means ‘together’) located just off Notting Hill Gate and sits on the site of Costas Grill, one of London’s first Greek restaurants which opened its doors in 1957.
Redesigned with chic white metro-tile wallpaper, blue banquettes and garden tables, it is no wonder that this new restaurant is boisterous, energetic and hugely popular.
Mazi offers a creative, yet sophisticated modern representation of traditional Greek dishes. Noticing a gap in the London market for authentic Greek food, the couple Christina Mouratoglou, born in Thessaloniki, and Frenchman Adrien Carre responded by reinterpreting and exploring a menu based on fusion. Mouratoglou, who has lived in the UK for 10 years shares, “as a Greek Londoner, you miss Greek food, there was not even one Greek restaurant I’d go to. Every time it was getting worse and worse”.
Thanks to this entrepreneurial couple, there is finally somewhere in London you can feast on a meal that transcends the tired repertoire of old-school Greek tavernas. A place that simultaneously offers authentic Greek food with a touch of unpredictability.
